Welcome To My Colorful World!

Welcome to my colorful world. I am a happy (most of the time!) wife, mom, MeMaw, artist, and art teacher. I am a follower of Jesus Christ. I also love to create, cook, nest, decorate, entertain family and friends, laugh, collect vintage stuff, snuggle my cats and dog, play outdoors, and so much more! In addition to all this, I also publish an online magazine with my dear friend, called Mermaids of the Lake. Oh, and I love a big cup of coffee with cream, a dry martini, red wine, blingy jewelry, pink lipstick, blue fingernail polish. I love color! Beautiful colors inspire, motivate, and move me!!! What's my favorite color? I can't choose. I love them all! Yellow, pink, red, turquoise, blue, purple, orange, green and every variation in between!

Willie, Our Dog-Boy!

Update: Sadly, Willie passed away on March 22, 2013. He was the best dog ever. We miss him so.... He was able to meet and love his younger dog brother, Bear. He was good to him and Bear loved him in return.

Willie is a German Shorthair Pointer. He is kind. He truly is and always has been. Willie loves his kitty sister, Janie. He loves other dogs and every person he has met!!! I do believe he would defend us against any bad guys or bad dogs, but luckily, he has never had the chance. Willie is a gentle soul. He once let our pet hamster walk all over his back and snuggle up for a nap. Oh, how I wish we had a picture of that!!!

Willie became ours when he was 8 weeks old. We traveled by plane to our friends' lake cabin in Northern Wisconsin to pick him up! They had his mom and also kept his brother, Max.

We were in love with Willie the instant we knew he would be ours. Our dear friends gave us our choice, based on their verbal descriptions of all the puppies. They described his chocolate brown coloring, with a white bib and one white paw! LOVE! Then they described his disposition. Willie was the last puppy out of the gate when they opened the door of the little nursery kennel. He would sit at the gate and talk! LOVE! Yes, he is very vocal, but never nuisence barks. He simply tries really hard to communicate! Cute! (unless he is telling you over and over again that he wants a treat! Then it is a bit annoying!) We also picked up a book all about German Shorthair Pointers, and the part that stood out the most to us was the fact that this breed of dog are like large lap dogs! They are their very happiest when hanging out with their families. Ahhh.... LOVE!

My husband did have some dreams of bird hunting with Willie, but Willie didn't really have a very good nose, so his hunting career was not. That was fine with me!!! I am not a big fan of hunting and I did seem to worry about Willie getting hurt or lost when he was out hunting. I preferred him to be right here, with me, snuggled up on the sofa in a ball way to small for a dog of his size.

I am so grateful that Willie is still with us at 14 years old.....

  2. I stumbled on your blog searching for a new scrub recipe and saw your Willie. He's just beautiful! Sweet old man eyes. We've had two GSP babies, Stone who is in heaven with Willie after being our lil man for nearly 17 years and our Beam who is now 3 years old. You are so right. These are the best babies ever and they love their people the most. Hope you and Bear are doing well.

    1. Thank you so much for your comment. Wouldn't it be cool if Stone and Willie were friends in heaven? I miss my sweet guy so much. My heart is hurting a little just remembering and seeing these pics. I wish you many more years with your Beam. Sweetest breed of dog.... <3 Our Bear is darling and perfect, as well... although, he not a GSP. We rescued him from Alabama and he traveled here, to us in Eastern Washington on an airplane in my son and daughter-in-law's carry-on on Christmas Eve. He is almost four now and still haven't written a special post and page for him. I better get on that!
