My Art: I'm Not Beautiful Like You

For several months I have been creating paintings using empty food, soap, toothpaste boxes. (and more!) This one once held a cake mix! This is one of my very, very favorite ways to reduce, reuse, recycle!!! I will give a step by step one of these days, but for now, a peak into the process.

I'm not Beautiful like you. I'm beautiful like me.

It is so easy to join in the comparison game about beauty, talent, and intelligence. As a child growing up in the 70's, I did my share of wishing I looked more like the models I was seeing in Seventeen Magazine or on T.V. It made me sad and discontent at times.

Now, I am doing my darndest to embrace "me" right now, just as a I am; with age-related skin changes, graying hair (okay, I am not embracing that! I am coloring it. :) and of course, the never-seeming-to-end chubbiness that was once only in my head and now is reality! I am eating healthy, exercising physically and spiritually, pursuing my special dreams, loving, laughing, crying, and always learning.

I implore you, "Love yourself healthy, beautiful, and awesome!"
