Do you like fairy tales?
I agree with Audrey. I love fairy tales! I love so much about them; romance, thrill, danger, intrigue, good vs. evil. Fairly tales let us travel to other lands and times and for me, knowing that these places exist as sure as any place on earth, in the author's imagination, just amazes and thrills me.
I tried to join in on the feminist way of thinking about fairy tales that was so popular for awhile 20 or so years ago. But... I just couldn't buy into the belief that fairy tales had anything to do with women's rights or our expectations of love and romance, family and more!!!
They are fairy tales, not non-fiction-real-life accounts! I knew they were not real as a child. (at least by the age of six or so) I also knew that my love, Peter Brady was an actor and not really my boyfriend, and that no matter how many times I imagined it I could not wave my pretend magic wand and make Pebbles Flinstone be mine.
I was a pretty darn realistic, rule-following kid, often praised for my common sense. But I sure did love spending time in my beautiful, pretend world, daydreaming and being the heroine in my own fantastic fairy tales.
