Welcome To My Colorful World!

Welcome to my colorful world. I am a happy (most of the time!) wife, mom, MeMaw, artist, and art teacher. I am a follower of Jesus Christ. I also love to create, cook, nest, decorate, entertain family and friends, laugh, collect vintage stuff, snuggle my cats and dog, play outdoors, and so much more! In addition to all this, I also publish an online magazine with my dear friend, called Mermaids of the Lake. Oh, and I love a big cup of coffee with cream, a dry martini, red wine, blingy jewelry, pink lipstick, blue fingernail polish. I love color! Beautiful colors inspire, motivate, and move me!!! What's my favorite color? I can't choose. I love them all! Yellow, pink, red, turquoise, blue, purple, orange, green and every variation in between!

Toilet Paper Roll Owls - A Quick Peek at how I Create Mine!

These little guys are my very favorite fill-in art project for when I am waiting for paint to dry. Truly! I love to have one going when I am painting glassware. The glass paint has to dry before another layer or detail can be added and I am... impatient! So, these little owls are a simple, fun fill-in. I just free-hand and have fun. You can too. Look up owls online to get inspiration.

I love creating owls out of toilet paper rolls!

Pinch one end of roll

Fold one side of pinched end in

Fold the other side over it

Ta Da! Now get colorful with it!

I start adding colors and features. Each owl is different

And then I add a bunch of fun details

They sit on the shelf above my writing desk and computer until one sells or flies away as a gift to a friend

Sometimes I move them around

This couple looked cute together. My tiny vintage chick likes hanging out with them because these owls are colorful, cute, and friendly.Your small animals are safe with them!

  3. Hi, I think your owl art work is beautiful. Do you apply a sealer to the acrylic paint when you are done? Thanks, Wendy

    1. Hi Wendy, Thank you!!! :) Yes, I do apply a sealer. Right now my favorite is DuraClear Gloss Varnish by Americana, but any clear, acrylic sealer would do fine.

  4. Hi! These are gorgeous! Although not very artistic, I'm getting inspired to give it a go and see what happens. But what do the backs look like? Can you show an image of the back? Would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
